Welcome!

Here is a brief history of theGolf Classic.

In 1996, Chris DeRuyver and John Evangelista decided to raise money for local charities holding a Two Man Scramble Charity Fundraiser. In 2000 the event was hosted for the Neutral Zone as the Autumn Classic. Two challenges faced them, weather and exclusivity. At that point, the event was only bringing in $5,000-$6,000.

In 2002, the event was moved to University of Michigan’s course, where you can only play if affiliated with UM. That year, they saw a 40 percent increase in golfers. In 2003, the event was moved from fall to summer and breakfast and dinner were included in the registration. In 2006, beer was also included. In 2011, lunch was included. Last year, 2014, the event sold out to 144 players and raised well over $30,000.

This year, DeRuyver, Evangelista and Neutral Zone are aiming to sell out the event again. Are you willing to test your golf skills on an Alister MacKenzie golf course and support the youth of our community? If the answer is yes, and it should be, click on the register tab and follow the prompts.

We will see you Monday, July 27th for a 9am shot gun start! Make sure to get there early to check in and enjoy a continental breakfast from Sweetwaters. Lunch and dinner are also included in the registration, both catered and donated by Boneheads BBQ and Moveable Feast.

We look forward to golfing with you to support this wonderful organization.
